The first necessary step for protection against sunlight is to apply sun-block or sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going outside. The sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher should be used since it is considerably effective. Additional sunscreen should be applied for physical activities such as sports and exercise. Areas near the nose, eyes and lips should be especially covered with sunscreen. For the sunscreen to be effective it is advisable to apply the sun block after every two hours and should be massaged gently and fully all over the skin. Another useful tip is to avoid going into sunlight at peak hours from 10am to 4pm since the UV rays are very strong around this time. One can also wear loose long sleeve shirts and pants as well as wide brim hat to cover parts of the body and reduce exposure to sunlight.
Applying sunscreen only during the daytime is not enough, the sunscreen should also be applied when there is little sunlight since various reflective mediums such as water or snow can still damage the skin and cause sunburn.
